BIOGRAPHY OF SAINT MARTIN OF TOURS READ ONLINE

Saint Martin of Tours was the son of pagan parents. He later converted his mother. His father was a commissioned officer in the Roman army. When Martin went to school, he came into contact with Christians and soon dreamed of dedicating his life to God. Martin was called into the military by Emperor Constantine to fight the Gauls. This soldier of God refused to attack the enemy but said he would enter the battle without armor or helmet, carrying only a crucifix. The enemy retreated without a fight and Constantine permitted Martin to leave the military. This booklet leads us through the paths this humble man followed from establishing the first Western Monastic Community to his everyday displays of humility and love of God. Truly an inspiration, we could all take a little of his spirit to improve our own lives.
